The first actual memory I have is when I was about four years old seeing a snake not far from me moving sideways past some bushes. I decided to follow it farther into the desert which was an early indicator of my adventurous spirit.
I grew up interested in aviation and astronomy. When I was five, my dad owned a Taylorcraft airplane, and I went for my first flight and have been flying ever since. As time passed I got interested in soaring, sailing, skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving, as well as hiking, biking and playing the guitar. With these and interests in science and gaming, this gave me an abundance of ideas for stories to tell.
After graduating from high school, I went to school and got an A.S. in Electronics Technology, and a B.S. in Computer Science then joined the working world, my first job required a security clearance. I would do technical writing while waiting for my clearance. It was about this time that I got interested in storytelling and started to write some of my ideas down though I never finished any of them. I put them off to the side with the thought I’d come back to them later in life. Then life got in the way with my marriage (to a wonderful lady), two rambunctious boys, and bills.
During this time, I still took some time to jot down my ideas for books though I didn’t have time to consider writing them. I was an avid reader. Hoping to instill a desire within them, I constantly read to my sons at night (alternating between mommy and daddy – we had The Runaway Bunny and Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown memorized). When they were in school, I would read the books that they were assigned to read so that we could talk about them together. My sons introduced me to several great book authors, like J. K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, and Suzanne Collins.
Over the years, the book world started to change with people using electronic readers, which I started using when I started commuting to work on mass transit. It’s at this stage that I thought it was time to give writing a try again. I read a series of books by Robert J Crane. I found a blog of his that talked about making a living as an indie author, and I thought I can do that!
So now I live in Texas with my beautiful bride, two grown sons, and a granddaughter. I now start a new chapter of my life trying to write and publish several books I’ve started writing over the years.
And I welcome you to come join me and let’s see where this story takes us.
